Environment Week Celebrations, 2001
THE
OBEROI, New Delhi
The Oberoi, New Delhi launched a green initiative within the hotel
premises. The main fountain of the lobby was converted into a
green display area with Placard of “I Love my Environment”
written in the centre. At the main porch an Oasis of green plants
were organized for the welcoming of guest. Placard with “I Love
my environment” was also displayed all around the premises of
the hotel.

THE TAJ HOTEL, Agra
The Taj Hotel, Agra organized a Rickshaw Rally on this occasion (i.e. 5th June ‘2001). And also conducted “Nukkar Shows” on 6 prominent places of the city by which an appeal was made to general public for protecting and conserving our natural environment by saving water, energy and greenery and also by stopping use of polythene.

GRAND INTER-CONTINENTAL , New Delhi
Grand Inter – Continental activities involved a special ‘green’ message for in-house guests, the distribution of handmade lapel pins of dried wheat stock, sapling planting ceremonies , free car pollution check , environment quiz and a creative tambola with a green message for the hotel staff along with a painting competition for children , under the theme ‘I Love my Environment’.
A
free car pollution camp was set up at the driveway of the Hotel
from 11.00 am to 3.00pm. Guests drove in to the hotel at avail the
opportunity to upgrade their non-pollution certificates and drove
out with their cars bearing stickers from the hotel ‘I Love My
Environment’.

TAJ GARDEN RETREAT, Madurai
The Taj Garden Retreat, Madurai teams with a volunteer force were formed among the staff for the above areas for the campaign, which was inaugurated by the corporation Commissioner of
Madurai. The staff in white T-Shirts with the Environment day message , distributed handbills, woodfree hand made paper bags to the public in all areas.
They collected waste plastic materials in jute gunny bags from the main streets.
We took out a procession in all main bazaar of the area. Planted tree saplings at Railway Junction car parking area and distributed free saplings to public in all the areas.
Banners, placards and posters with slogans were put up in key places.

THE
RAMBHAGH PALACE, Jaipur
Green
Initiative was launched within the hotel premises i.e. greening of
lobby, placing posters in the lobby and the Restaurant areas.
Tent cards were placed in the guest rooms with environment message
and Gulmohar seeds. 200 tent cards were distributed to the guests
visiting hotels Restaurant/Coffee Shop. Green
Flags were distributed to all hotel employees & guests with
the following slogan “I Love my Environment”. The Flags were
worn by the staff on duty.

LE ROYAL MERIDIEN, Chennai
Le Royal Meridien, Chennai mustered a team of over 150 persons on Tuesday 5th June at 7am to clean the roadside of all the garbage outside the hotel but when the rains came at 07:45 the team were forced to stop. So team repeated the exercise again on Thursday 7th June and removed a massive amount of garbage from 7am to 9am that day.
Parallel to this the team cleaned up the "traffic island triangle" nearest to the hotel and put good quality soil on it. Plant trees and bushes in it and maintain it tidily as our contribution to helping keep our city clean and tidy. A banner has also been put up saying "Le Royal Meriden Chennai protects the environment.

HOTEL CHANDELA, Khujuraho
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Hotel Chandela Khujuraho organized a function in which the District Collector Mr. Rajiv Ranjan emphasized, " Energy conservation has become the most important concern in today's scenario. By its conservation, we not only save money, but environment is saved from getting polluted. The collector insisted that the alternate solar energy should be
utilized and simultaneously warned that if we don not save every drop of water, it would be late to come back and the things would go out of hands.

HOTEL TAJ GANGES, Benares
The Taj Ganges, Benares has made some pioneering efforts and taken some concrete steps in propagating environmental consciousness and awareness amongst the common man of
Varanasi. The Unit installed a 20HP electrical pump and laid out a network of pipeline all along the steps of the Ghats for ease of cleaning.
In addition, the unit adopted a huge traffic island outside the Hotel for Plantation and beautification. The area, which was earlier, used as a garbage dump is now transformed into a beautiful park with hedges and ornamental plants. The Hotel has arranged a permanent water connection the park.
Many other cleaning and plantation campaigns have been done on various other occasions involving Schools and Institutions like, St. Mary's Convent, Government Girls Inter College, SOS Children's Village Missionaries of Charity, Rakshat Gangam Aandolan and Ganga Sewa
Nidhi.

THE PARK, New Delhi
To Celebrate the World Environment Day, the Park Hotel organized a poster competition with CRY. Fifty children from various NGOs participated in this creative and education event. The children through their creative display communicated their ideas and messages. Renowned artist, Ms Arpana Caur selected the posters for the award. Admiral H Abraham of CRY and Ms Meeta Vyas of WWF addressed the children on various issues pertaining to environment day caps, the employees of the hotel cleaned up the Jantar Mantar apart from organizing a pollution check camp.
