- Jagmohan The result –oriented initiatives mooted by the Association in the short span of four years of its inception has created new landmarks for the hospitality industry in India. The Hotel Association of
India spearheaded the thrust for granting
recognition to tourism and hospitality sectors on par with the
export in par with the export industries . The Association formulated
the strategy and organized a series of interactive meetings with the
concerned Ministries and organizations culminating in a higher level
conclave presided over by Shri Ramakrishna Hedge, Hon’ble Minister of
Commerce, Government of India, on 16th July 1998 at the
Oberoi Hotel, New Delhi. The action plan presented by HAI was formally
implemented with the issue of a government Notification on November 26th,
1998 declaring Hotels and
Tourism Units earning specified quantum of Foreign exchange as Service
Export House/International Service Export House / International Star
Service Export House/International Super Star Service Export House. HAI- led initiative has resulted in Asia Pacific Region's first Conference -cum-Exposition on Information Technology being institutionalized as an annual events in New Delhi for countries in the South Asia Region. The First Conference-cum-Expo organized by HAI on April 10 - 11 2000 at the ITC Maurya Sheraton Hotel, New Delhi received support from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, and the SAARC Tourism Council. The Ministries of Tourism and Information Technology , Government of India, extended official support to HAI as Co-sponsors of the event. The
Second Conference-cum-Exposition organised by HAI on 15-16th March 2001
at the Taj Mahal Hotel supported by Ministry of Tourism , Ministry of
Information Technology, United Nations - ESCAP, International
Association (PATA), SAARC Hotel Association and University Surrey, UK. HAI
has been a prime mover in the formation of the SAARC Hotel Association
which was launched at Mumbai on 6-7 April, 1999. The Association has
been playing a leading role in creating greater synergy between the
hospitality industry organizations in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India,
Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and has, with this objective in
view, organized series of SAARC Seminars and Conferences on Hygiene
Management in and Information Technology in Hotels. The Government-Tourism Industry synergies resulted in the creation of four Task Forces for Tourism Development, of which three were led by senior HAI Executive Members and one by a TEPC Executive Member. The task forces have successfully projected the blue print for a macropolicy tourism environment that will create value for the customers, the industry and the economy. |
